blue trout skies
Lower American River
General Conditions:   Water
flows are around 4000 cfs.
Shad fishing is going strong
with increased flows. There
are reports of Shad to Sailor
Bar-not a lot but we are
seeing them. Try the evening -
it seems to be the best time!

Fishing & Hatches: Stripers are
scattered throughout the river and
will be a possibility 'til it cools off
in the Fall. Be very quiet while
floating the river as it is low and
clear now. Some are using longer
fluorocarbon leaders with smaller
life-like streamers.
Shad are scattered throughout the
river now too. There don't seem to
be any big concentrations but the
areas above the Sunrise Bridge seem
to be more consistent. Some are
being caught downstream near Sac
State, too. I would recommend
fishing late in the day with smaller,
sparser flies in the low flows.

Black Midges, P.T's, Red Copper

this time of year, but there have
been some good baetis hatches with
possible dry fly action in the
afternoons.

Fishing & Hatches:   Fishing from a
boat is best for this river. Recent
reports have been very good for
Rainbows and Steelhead. Egg and
caddis patterns are still the most
consistent for nymphing. This is one
of the best times of year for big,
wild rainbows.

for the big guys.

Fishing & Hatches:   Fishing reports
have been pretty good. There have
been hatches of golden stones as well
